9 Online resources for teachers with Chromebooks in the classroom

It’s easy to say schools should have devices in the classroom. That it’s better for your students to be learning with technology. But how do you get started? Teachers with Chromebooks, we’re talking to you! We’ve found some fantastic online resources that will make life in the classroom a lot easier and a lot more fun.

 1. Google for Education Training Centre

What better way to get started with your Chromebook than by learning from the people who created it? Google has created an online training centre that has a wide range of modules that take you through the basic setup of your machines right through to advanced skills to really maximize your classroom experience. The best part is you can go through these courses at your own pace and whenever you have the time.

2. G Suite for Education

This is the resource designed by Google for use in schools. It matches perfectly with the functionality of a Chromebook – which isn’t surprising since they’re from the same people. The range of tools allows you and your students to truly collaborate and learn together. You’ll find all of the basics that your kids will need to create projects, write papers and communicate with ease.

3. Chromebook Classroom on YouTube

This YouTube channel has an array of videos that are all aimed at helping schools and teachers with Chromebooks to use them more effectively. It showcases hour-long webinars and short how-tos to help you get to grips with the basics and some of the more interesting applications. It even has a few videos aimed at students.

4. A resource guide for teachers

This mini website has great step-by-step instructions for setting up your Chromebooks and getting to grips with all the functionality it allows. You’ll find useful screenshots and detailed descriptions of each element – even a breakdown of keyboard shortcuts to maximise your efficiency.

5. Top Chrome apps and extensions

It’s essential to have the right tools for the job, and this list of apps and extensions for Chrome will help you get the most out of your Chromebooks and your students. It includes options that are great for any classroom, as well as many subject-specific programs. Have a look, and pick and choose what works for you.

6. 30 ways to use Chromebooks in the classroom

This helpful Google Slides presentation lists a variety of ways for teachers with Chromebooks to get the most out of the tech in their classroom. It has ideas from setting up lesson plans and calendars to using discussion boards so students can continue with their thoughts on a topic after hours.

7. Websites that are great on Chromebooks

This list of websites has been compiled by LSR-7 (Lee’s Summit School District) as way to help teachers do more with their Chromebooks. They’ve uncovered some great finds that will inspire students to be more creative and to do their very best work on projects and when studying for tests.

8. A quick guide for guardians

Are the parents and guardians of your students unsure about Chromebooks and why you are using them in the classroom? Here is a helpful guide that gives a few points on how the devices make learning better in the 21st century.

9. Mobile Device Management (MDM) software

While not strictly an online resource, MDM from Mobile Guardian will certainly help any teacher with a Chromebook to reap the full benefit of these learning aids.
